Public Service Announcement:
The Game is the biggest surprise of 2012 with this album!
Hopefully that catches your attention for this one. The Game has yet to re-create the magic he created with his first album, The Documentary, during his short lived stint as a member of G-Unit and as Dr. Dre's protege. After the much publicized beef with 50 Cent and falling out with G-Unit and Dr. Dre, people wondered if The Game would ever get that same magic back.
Since then, The Game has dropped 3 albums (Doctor's Advocate, LAX and The R.E.D. Album). In each of these albums, The Game has garnered some success due to his very popular mixtapes and massive 200, 300 and 500 bar freestyles where he just goes HAM on everyone who crosses his path. Even though commercially there was some minor success, The Game was never able to re-create that same magic. XXL has said, "Game's flows and lyrical skills are still sharp, but his narrative hasn't changed much through the course of four albums."
Since then, he's mended his relationship with Dr. Dre and the West Coast and really took it on blast. Even co-signing Kendrick Lamar who has single handedly put the West back on the map in hip hop with the TDE/Black Hippy conglomerate. The Game has learned from his past mistakes and has decided to really grow as an individual. Before if someone said his name, he would retaliate in the same manner a chicken runs when its head gets cut off. With that being said, The Game has garnered some serious negative attention being called bi-polar with some of his actions.
But recently as I have seen him in interviews, The Game has shown some serious maturity and more subdued. As an individual, I think he witnessed how the younger generation of MCs with Kendrick, Big K.R.I.T., J. Cole and others have taken over the game with their lyrical ability and a profound amount of maturity with their music content. This had to have lit a fire under Jayceon's ass...and his music shows for it.
His R.E.D. album kinda tanked. The production and what not was decent but the music quality was meh at best. A lot of senseless featurings and a whole lot of name dropping...it really made the music hard to listen to cause it just seemed like he was rapping names upon names. The album was really awkward...so upon listening to Jesus Piece, I didn't expect much. Man was I wrong...
